Dear Right to Life Friend,

AB405, the Parental Notification Bill requiring that an abortion clinic notify one parent 48 hours before performing an abortion on their teen or preteen daughter, is still in jeopardy.

We need to keep the pressure on!

  • Thousands of postcards have arrived in Carson City and hundreds more are being received daily.
  • Emails and telephone lines are burning up with support for AB405.
  • The Las Vegas voices are now beginning to be heard, and the Senators are listening.
  • The governor has always said he was in support of parental notification and there is no reason to believe that has changed.
  • Key senators have committed to vote yes and today Senator Michael Roberson verbally committed to vote in favor of this bill should he have the opportunity.

All of this proves that your work is powerful.  Keep it up.

Senator Kieckhefer continues to hold this bill in his committee in an effort to kill it.

Let’s focus our energy on him.

Here’s the message: “Stop playing politics with AB405.  Send AB405 to HHS where it belongs. Support parents and their minor daughters.”

  1. Please call Senator Kieckhefer today at 775-684-1450 and simply state the above message.
Please be polite. The person answering the phone is not responsible for the hold up, but they can and will get your message to the senator. Thank them for doing so.

Parental Notification Update

Dear Friends;                                                                                                             May 2015

Good News!

On April 17, 2015, AB405 the “Parental Notification” bill passed the Assembly on a party line vote.

24 Republicans voting Yea, 17 Democrats voting Nay and 1 Republican did not vote.

Nevada’s AB405 is a parental involvement law requiring notification of one parent or guardian prior to a girl under 18 receiving an abortion. It has a judicial bypass and exception for medical emergencies. It acknowledges the majority opinion that parents have the right and responsibility to parent their teenagers in ALL medical decisions. Abortion is an invasive surgical procedure with inherent risks and consequences.

Really…..   17 members of the Nevada legislature don’t believe that a parent should be NOTIFIED prior to performing an invasive surgical procedure on their child. We’re talking NOTIFICATION not CONSENT.   A school cannot give your child an aspirin without your CONSENT yet they could take your child to an abortion clinic without even NOTIFYING you.

The good news is, with your help, we got this bill out of the Assembly. The bad news is, we have run into a road block in the Senate.

What’s happened?

After passing the Assembly, AB405 was introduced in the Senate and immediately referred to the finance committee – where all inconvenient bills go to die.  Finance Committee chairman, Senator Ben Kieckhefer (R-Reno), does not plan to give AB405 a hearing.  Both he and Senator Michael Roberson (R-Las Vegas) do not want a vote taken in the Senate.

AB405 must be voted out of a Senate committee by May 15 or it will die.

Another round of extra effort is needed from people like you! It is urgent because it has been 20 years since the last time we were able to introduce this bill in the Nevada Legislature.   If this bill dies, it could be another 20 years before we get another chance.

What now?

We are asking Senators to RE-REFER the bill to the Health and Human Services Committee where it belongs, to give it a hearing, and pass it into law.

Your voice in support of AB405 is critical to protect children and parental rights in Nevada.

  • Here is what we need you to do.

Last Chance… Student Bathroom/Shower Privacy Bill

NCC LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT AB 375

The Student Bathroom/Shower Privacy Bill AB 375 provides that restrooms, locker rooms and showers designated for use by one biological sex must only be used by members of that biological sex.

Tuesday April 21st is the deadline for bills to be heard in their original house.  Call and email the following legislators and let them know you want this bill to be voted on and passed. If this bill is not heard before the deadline it will fail without having the legislators on record as to where they stand on co-ed locker rooms and bathrooms in the public schools.

1.  Call and email the following Legislators:

Majority Floor Leader Anderson

775-684-8853

Assemblyman Armstrong

775-684-8839

Assemblyman Edwards

775-684-8857

 Assemblywoman Woodbury

MESSAGE  School Districts in Nevada are being pressured into passing policies, that mandate co-ed facilities. These extreme policies clearly infringe on the privacy of the majority of Nevada students. This bill reasonably separates students by their biological sex for the purposes of privacy, modesty, and safety while using bathrooms, locker rooms, and other related facilities in Nevada Public Schools. This bill allows for alternative arrangements to be made for gender non conforming students, allowing for local school districts to make those decisions.  AB 375 does not require new facilities to be built, therefore it has no fiscal impact on the state or schools.  Contrary to what privacy opponents say, AB 375 is legal and does not violate any Federal or State law.

Victory on AB 375 & AB 405

NCC LEGISLATIVE ALERT

VICTORY

AB 375 & AB 405 were voted on and passed out of the Assembly Judiciary Committee Friday evening.
AB375 requires that any school facility in a public school, including a restroom, locker room or shower which is designated for use by persons of one biological sex must only be used by persons of that biological sex, as determined at birth.

AB405 allows for a parent to be notified before their underage daughter gets an abortion. In all other surgical procedures parents must give their consent for the underage child to have surgery. Parental notification will help to bring parents and their daughters together to address this life changing situation.

Thank you all for your phone calls, emails and posted opinions.  Your diligence helped get these bills passed.

Special thanks goes to Melissa Clement and Nevada Right to Life for their work on AB405 and special thanks goes to Karen England of Capitol Resource Family Alliance for their work on AB375.

These bills will be voted on in the full Assembly between now and April 21st.

MESSAGE: Please Oppose SB395 Same Sex Marriage.  Although the courts have overturned the will of the people and mandated same-sex marriage, Nevada does not need to change our laws and bend to the wishes of the unelected Federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  The Federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is the most overturned Court of Appeals.  No legislative action is needed until the U.S. Supreme Court decides on this issue. This bill also increases the marriage license fee by $14 to pay to promote same-sex marriage in Nevada. This bill also changes the birth certificate which will now list the mother’s name and the “other parent’s” name, not the father’s name.  All children have a mother and a father and deserve to have it properly recorded.

We object to this legislation when 70% of Nevadans voted against same-sex marriage.
